Mark Hurd on the Modern Connected Customer Experience

In an interesting article this past week, Mark Hurd of Oracle discusses the changing world of customer experience. He points out that customers see no difference between connecting online, chatting online or making a phone call.

Since many of you may be involved with creating customer-facing applications used for better curstomer expience, you may find the article and some of the data presented quite interesting.

Microsoft Release New Version Chromium Edge

You probably don't do your dev work in Internet Explorer. You probably use Chrome or perhaps Firefox.

When a client tells you that there standard is IE you likely let out a private grown.

Did you know that the Microsoft Edge browser is now using the same engine as Chrome. It is called Chromium. For me, Edge has been a hopeless browser that I really don't ever use. And when it comes to IE, stuff that worked fine in Chrome doesn't preform very well in the high overhead of IE.

The new version of Chromuim Edge has been released in beta and you can check it out. From what I've seen, it may solve many of the issues I have had when running apps in IE. It promises to be a dchallenger to Chrome and allows a great deal of integration with Microsoft Office.

Blogs Of The Week

It is not really possible in this show to cover all recent blogs posts on APEX, but I do try and bring to you the ones that particularily stand out for me. Here are a few for this week.

Read Only Conditions - Always and Never
Srihari Ravva

In APEX, read only conditions can be applied at the page level, region level and item level. Sometimes it is not that clear how these read only conditions work together. When a page is set to a read only condition of "Always", it impacts all of the other components on the page. This post explains how the conditions can be used to  interact with the page level Read Only condition.

Paste from clipboard in Oracle APEX
Scott Wesley

Ever wanted to paste into a field values from the clipboard? In this post Scott presents a way to do exactly that without having to use the old CNTL + v trick. It is a nifty little solution and he provides an example as well so you can see what he has done.

Oracle APEX – Let’s integrate with Jira! Part 1
Lech Cieślik

On the pretius software blog, you'll find the first in a series of articles by Lech Cieślik descripbing how to integrate APEX with Jira.

I have used Jira with many of my clients. Jira is a bug tracking and project management application. On Jira you can create trouble tickets or enhancements that need to be dealt with.

Here, through integration with APEX, users can create Jira tickets directly from your APEX appication. A user doesn't have to leave the app, open Jira in order to create the trouble tickets either during testing or actual user feedback.

Caleb Curry Continues His YouTube Tutorial Series

Caleb Curry has been releasing on YouTube a series of APEX tutorial videos.

His latest tutorial show you how to create a master detail page in APEX.If you're new to APEX you should check out all of the tutorials in the series.

A couple of episodes ago I spoke with Caleb about this tutorial series. Go to shows to listen to that interview.

DOAG German Magazine

The German Oracle User Group has a great magazine if you can read Germin.  The latest issue has some great articles on APEX as well as Block Chain and Dev Ops. Don't miss this magazine if you are able to read German.

Tutorial Series On PL/SQL Best Practices

Skillbuilders and Steven Feuerstein have joined forces to create a seven part tutorial series on Best Practices for PL/SQL.

The first video in the series was released last week. Steven talks about declaring VARCHAR2 variables in a way that protects your code from errors in the future.
